It’s career kickoff time!

We’re at the beginning of the new year ready to kick off your career.  You’ve heard that everything resets at the top of the year.  Well, that means it’s time to evaluate your career and keep your professional growth and development top of mind.

Here are five ways to get into a kicking position:

1. Roadmap: Carve out time to create a career roadmap with clear directions and instructions on where you’re going, what route you plan to take, how long you plan to invest, what skills you need to grow, and what goal you’d like to accomplish.
2. Goals: Set SMART goals, this is an acronym for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals. These are well-defined goals that help you build a solid action plan.
3. Accountability: Implement a tracking system or method to hold yourself accountable to your roadmap and your core goals. Consider hiring a professional career coach, advisor, and/or seeking out a mentor as your accountability partner.  Having an experienced career leader to hold you accountable can prove beneficial to help nourish your career growth.
4. Audit: You should also consider establishing a regular cadence to temperature check your goals, audit your roadmap and re-examine your goals to help ensure the path you are taking is yielding the right level of results. During your audit, don’t be afraid to pivot or course correct, if needed, as needed. As you audit both your roadmap and goals, you might also uncover valuable insights that lead you in a different direction.
5. Focus: The most important point to remember is to remain focused. Stay the course you’ve already built your roadmap, established clear goals, implemented accountability measures, audited and laid out plans that will help you achieve your ultimate goals.  While you focus, stay open to vital feedback from your accountability partners, professional stakeholders, loved ones and incorporate the right tracking measures to help you see clearly the path ahead.
